A Useful Garden/Between Teeth

Nick A Useful Garden is so damned catchy! It’s poppy but artistic, complex but accessible. I can’t stop listening to it.

Between Teeth is more somber and moody, perfect for these cloudy days as warm weather gives way to brisk Autumn breezes carrying Hickory smoke on its breath.

I look forward to hearing what Ben gives us in the future. Favorite track: A Useful Garden.

  • Original Album Artwork

This is the physical original cover artwork! It consists of an acrylic painting on a 6X6" flat canvas. Seeing as it's the original, only one is available!

NOTE: A minor amount of filtering was done to the final album cover, but the painting looks exactly how you see it on this merch listing.

Julie, diamonds all 'round your bedside help you go to sleep at night, but it's been years since you've had a dream. Julie, where do the months go? It's an answer you don't know, but you know the months just won't stay. You try all day to fight the war, but there's no cause that wins anymore for you. Julie, the fire is on low. There are no flowers grown in a useful garden anyway. Julie, make it mean something--rejecting nothing-- as you reason that your world is okay. Never shake, but rather nod, Julie, knowing that the Son of God loves you. He loves you.

Broken cisterns sing. Everybody wants something they don't have. We want something we don't need. I was there when the body spoke, self-assured the Spirit would come spilling out between its teeth. Who has the time for bleeding? Who will build the road that passes Your apartment? All souls go home, hoping there's a bed made for them there. A narrative to please the kids tells us where the bad guys go when they close their lids. It helps us fit. I was there when the body fell swiftly in the desert, only inches from a wishing well, and singing a chapel bell.

about

These two songs were recorded in the months between the release of "Here, Asleep" and the beginning work on my new album. I've reworked them both many times, but I think the recordings heard here stand on their own. I hope you enjoy these songs.
