Way back in May 2020, I recorded this using my voice, my guitars, some effects pedals, and a four-track tape machine. "Songs for Ruined X-Rays" was about to come out in a month, and I was already eagerly making new things that sounded totally different. I stumbled on this recently and decided I wanted people to hear it. Enjoy.

collapsing empire.
from the inside,
it falls away
so this is what it looks like:
crumbling pillars,
falling slowly,
without shame.

all the world is a fire.

so this is what it sounds like:
everything breaking,
disintegrating.
i do not know
just what i expected,
or if i rejected
the very idea
that we'd be so confused.
